Parafilms was in California last week, diving around the beautiful Channel Islands. Located 2 hrs from the coast of Santa Monica, this national park is packed with majestic kelp forests & spiky fauna. The stunning golden algae of the Laminaria genus, commonly called kelp, are used by cosmetic companies for their skincare & hydrating virtues. See our previous work on Laminaria digitata.

It was a pleasure and privilege to dive with Dr. Tariq Shihabuddin and Jim Knowlton from Blue Ocean Productions, whose beautiful images of golden kelp have helped our series Tales from the Blue for Biotherm. We look forward to visiting Cali again! We’ll have to dive on Catalina with marine biologist Tierney Thys !

All footage shot with the 5D Mark III, Aquatica housing + Amphibico HID light.
