Led by the new Swiss Polar Institute (SPI), the ACE expedition aims to measure the magnitude of climate change through 22 scientific projects. It’s an unprecedented mission, joining international teams to conduct oceanic, terrestrial and atmospheric studies.
From December to March 2017, researchers sail around the White Continent. Visiting sub-Antarctic islands, teams encounter the Mertz glacier and Siple volcano on the continent. By carrying out sampling and deploying scientific instruments across the path, results will give a better understanding of this cold, isolated continent and its Southern Ocean.
